The Graduate Student Organization will benefit the graduate and undergraduate student body by creating an open dialogue surrounding topics of language, language development, literacy, and classroom applications which span multiple disciplines on campus. The interdisciplinary nature of the organization should promote conversations with STEM and other Social Science disciplines. Additionally, the collaborative opportunities to provide speakers, research opportunities, and a sense of community within and across department would benefit the graduate community as well.
The students within the Graduate Student Organization seek a better sense of community and connection to outside disciplines. Through an organized effort, the group can present itself as united and ready to collaborate with others inside of the college and outside of the college. Additionally, building a community base will help with the retention of students in the graduate program and with recruiting efforts by our department.
Mission
The purpose of this organization is to support the professional development and welfare of students matriculated in the Curriculum and Instruction graduate program, as well as other programs across the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
Objectives
1) encourage fellowship among graduates and to enrich the college life experience
2) increase student participation in cultural, educational, and social activities at UIUC
3) promote professional development
4) provide an opportunity for leadership and collaboration across Curriculum and Instruction
